Review Series AGGRESSIVE B-CELL LYMPHOMAS Transformed follicular non-Hodgkin lymphoma

Histologic transformation (HT) refers to a biologic event leading to the development of a high-grade, aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma in patientswith anunderlying follicular lymphoma (FL). Transformation to diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) or Burkitt lymphoma is also known to take place in other subtypes of indolent lymphoma such as marginal zone lymphoma, lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma, small lymphocytic lymphoma/chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and lymphocyte predominant Hodgkin lymphoma, but is best described as occurring in FL. For the purposes of this review, we will focus our discussion on histologic transformation of FL specifically to DLBCL.
